Home Front First - Montevideo, MN

This is a part time AM Cook position. The hours are 6:30 am to 1:30 pm; 42 hours a pay period.

Job Purpose: Within the structure of PSLO core values Dignity, Integrity, Professionalism, Humor and Passion; this position is responsible for preparation of meals and snacks in a safe, pleasant manner.

• Determine and adhere to production schedules and timely meals
• Preparation and cooking of food (daily, holidays and special events)
• Presentation of food in enjoyable manner for consumption
• Food safety/storage within refrigerator, freezer and pantry
• Measures and mixes ingredients per recipe guidelines using appropriate utensils
• Verification of properly cooked foods to ensure safety, quality and quantity.
• Respect for site equipment and supplies
• Actively protects equipment and assists in eliminating waste
• Safely operates kitchen equipment
• Integration of sanitation protocol within workflow (ex. hand washing, safe use of cleaning products)
• Maintain up-to-date site ongoing education
• Follows policies & procedures, including Vulnerable Adult and Bill of Rights which are also located in the Handbook
• Cheerful greetings to residents, initiates friendly conversations and shows concern for resident welfare

Education & Experience:
• High School education or equivalent
• Must be eighteen (18) years of age
• Clearance of Minnesota Department of Human Services background study

Physical Requirements:
• Climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, feel and smell.
• Lift and/or move supplies, equipment and materials at 40 pound minimum
• Vision abilities required include close, distance and depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Assist in the evacuation of residents
• Read, write and verbally communicate in English
• Good general health and demonstrate emotional stability

Work Environment:
• Exposure to chemical and respiratory hazards
• Minimal exposure to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases
• Minimal sitting
• Moderate noise level
• Most responsibilities are located within the kitchen and dining areas of the site

Job Purpose:
Performs services to the facility and residents as necessary to maintain the personal comfort and cleanliness of our residents. Included is any combination of housekeeping/cleaning duties to maintain resident apartments in a clean and orderly manner. Duties include, but are not limited to, making beds, replenishing linens, laundry, cleaning rooms and halls, vacuuming, garbage removal, refilling items, and assisting with other duties as needed.

Perform household services essential to health care in a home environment, including but not limited to:
1. Perform personal care activities, including but not limited to:
a. Bathing – full or partial
b. Shampoo/hair care
c. Skin care/nail care, including foot soaks
d. Oral hygiene/denture care
e. Shaving
f. Dressing
2. Assist with dressing, ambulation, transfers, and exercises
3. Assist with body positioning or transfers of clients who are not ambulatory
4. Perform household services essential to health care in a home environment, including but not limited to:
a. Meal preparation & service
b. Eating assistance if necessary / requested
c. Laundry
d. Housekeeping
e. Keeping common areas and resident units clean and orderly
i. Vacuuming
ii. Dusting
iii. Mopping floors
iv. Clean & disinfect bathrooms
v. Garbage removal to the dumpster
5. Administer medications and treatments under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (refer to policies)
6. Feed clients who require assistance or who are at risk of choking
7. Assist with bowel and bladder control, bladder training, and incontinence products
8. Report changes in the client’s condition and needs to the LPN &/or RN as needed
9. Complete the appropriate records to document cares given and pertinent observations regarding physical and mental conditions, intake and output, and exercise.
10. Respond and attend to client requests promptly or request other staff to assist
11. Maintain proper hand-washing techniques
12. Communicate effectively with residents, families and staff while maintaining confidentiality
13. Maintain a safe client environment
14. Maintain confidentiality; treat clients, family, and staff with respect
15. Participate in monthly inservice programs to meet State and site compliance requirements
16. Taking and recording vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency.
17. Organize and restock carts, resident units, and supply room at the end of the shift
18. Ensure security of resident rooms
19. Follow all company safety and security procedures
20. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards in the maintenance manual
21. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the nurse or therapist.
22. Providing normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
23. Helps residents care for themselves by using reminders for: cane or walker, special utensils to eat, special techniques and equipment for personal hygiene.
24. Assisting with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations, such as “reminders.”
25. Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals.
26. Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
27. Assist with the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of selected routine and non-technical aspects of nursing care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses (RN`s) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
28. Assist residents with lifts by assessment and direction of Registered Nurse and manufacturer guidelines (site specific)
29. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary
1. Successful completion of EduCare online training courses and competency evaluation
2. Successful completion of on the job orientation period
3. Have satisfied the following requirements:
a. Be at least 16 years of age
b. Have demonstrated an accepting and therapeutic attitude toward the sick, disabled, and the elderly
c. Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal directions
d. Maturity to deal effectively with the demands of the job
e. Demonstrated the ability to work with little supervision and make appropriate judgments
f. Demonstrated dependability, tact, and ability to follow orders.
g. Possess and maintains good physical and mental health, including current TB testing policy
h. Have US citizenship or evidence of valid alien work permit
4. Minnesota Department of Health background study clearance suitable for working in a Vulnerable Adult environment.
5. Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and methods
6. Working knowledge of operating cleaning equipment
7. Physical stamina and mobility including ability to reach, kneel and bend, stand for long periods of time, squat, crouch and work in confined spaces.
8. Ability to lift, push and pull required load (usually about 50 lbs.)
9. Ability to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
Must be able to work a schedule that includes rotating weekends and holidays

Wages are based on experience with CNA and NOC differental.
